Shipwreck Lyrics
written by Sabine Heusler-Schick
I saw JB standing
down at Ottway Shore
we watched the big ship sinking
6 miles from the shore
6 miles from the shore
The wind it lashed my hair dear
my eyes burned by the foam
I saw my fellows flailing
as the mast came down
as the mast came down
The waves they smashed my face while
the icy Antarctic sea
embraced my shivers to my chest
and took the life from me
and took the life from me

The Story of Shipwreck
They found sewing machines this time on the beaches after the tall ship from New York filled with cargo from the great exhibitions sank at Otway. Bound for Melbourne Harbor it had been at sea for 80 days.
Over 500 ships sank in those treacherous waters in those days. The light house was quick to sound its alarm and the villages risked their own lives as they had done so many times before heading into the dark and icy waters to save as many lives as they could. The Red Baron carried 37 crew members and one passenger Mr Joseph Braxton Yates.
I was collecting small pieces of wood in the sand – I believe them to be tiny pieces of ships long lost, when I heard a humming in my ears. I stood and faced my chin to the wind and saw a dark figure, I’d not noticed before, standing just where the waves broke. Dark and still he stood looking out at the horizon.
