Winter
Written by Sabine Heusler-Schick
oh the winter it came suddenly
down into the valley
rain turned the snow
fore we had time
to gather in the kindling
the babe was due in months to come
but wanted to come sooner
of strong mind
it seemed a curse
it carried from her mother
she came the day
i’d feared the most
while my man went out a hunting
and the blizzard that was due to hit
came early and left us starving
the wind did howl and moan and wail
and hours turned from days to weeks
but god he’d never leave me be
we prayed for his returning
Spring time 10 years later
a traveller did find us
looking for a place to sleep
found me and babe clutched to my breast
and my mans bones upon the landing
